Crested Butte

Crested Butte was the second stop on our Colorado trip, we started in Denver for a wedding, then headed southwest into the mountains with family. We stayed in a condo on the mountain, a ski-in, ski-out place in the wintertime. My family is pretty outdoorsy, I like my fair share of outdoor adventure, but I like it in moderation, and on my own terms. I like to hike for a bit, see a few vistas, get my pics, and call it a day. One benefit of having Wyatt is that he has the same lasting power that Tim and I do for certain acitvities, like hiking…there’s only so long we can strap him to our backs in the carrier, or keep him out in the sun for. (Tim, really likes Wyatt’s bedtime of 7pm, so he has a built-in excuse if he doesn’t want to stay out past happy hour…my dear old soul, husband.) So while my family went on a more rigoruous hike, we had to do our own, more moderate hike that involved going up the mountain on a ski lift instead of using our legs (that would have just taken too long and we have a little ticking time bomb in tow.) This hiking strategy was one of our best yet- we took a ski lift as far as we could up Crested Butte and hiked down, so we got all the vistas with minimal work, but still logged some good steps. Wyatt slept most of the hike, because we timed it up nicely with a nap (pro tip), but he was awake for the lift ride and really loved it. We were out for 2 hours, and that’s just about the perfect amount of time in my book!

A few of our other favorite activities were horseback riding, poking around the cute little downtown, and spending some peaceful family time in the mountains before heading back to the hustle and bustle of New York!
